I believe Johannes Stauffer, born July 24, 1767, is the my 6th generation Stauffer grandfather. I have found him to be the most elusive. I have searched twice for his grave around Annville, PA, and have come to the conclusion that he was either buried somewhere else, or that his grave marker is unreadable. It is also possible that he was buried in a cemetery in Annville that was moved. The records are not complete.
Johannes was married to Margreta Barth December 2, 1793. Church records show that they were married at the First Reformed Congregation at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They settled near Campbelltown, Pennsylvania on the Horseshoe Pike where there four children were born.

I have found very little about his wife. In the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Church and Town Records her name appears as Margreta. Johannes Barth was listed as a sponsor for the baptism of their two children Elizabeth and Margaret Rebecca on October 30th 1803, as witnessed by the records from the Hill Lutheran Church, Lebanon, PA. She died in 1804. According to John’s will and orphaned court records their 4 children were given to Christian Doughterman, who married Johannes sister Barbara Stauffer upon the death of his wife. There is also documentation that not all of the children lived with Christian Doughterman and his wife, but with other family members.

Johannes died from a hog bite January 20, 1814. The children of Johannes and Margreta are as follows:
Elizabeth Stauffer born January 30, 1975. She went to live with Dr. and Mrs. John Gloninger of Lebanon Pennsylvania. She married Jonathan Walter and died August 11, 1870. During all of her married life they lived in the city of Lebanon, PA. She is buried at the Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, PA.
John Stauffer born December 31, 1795. He lived in Lebanon, PA until he was 25 years of age. He learned the trade of a carpenter and cabinet maker and was for many years a successful contractor, At 25 he moved to Center County, PA., with one Michael Moyer. He had lived with this family until his marriage to Katherine Keller November 24, 1825. He was a very devoted member of the Lutheran Church while living in Pennsylvania. He served as deacon and leader of the choir for many years, and was highly respected. The family moved by canal boat to Springfield Township, Ohio in April of 1848, where he lived the rest of his life as a farmer. Since there was no Lutheran church there, they joined the Reformed church. John died August 1, 1864 and is buried in Summit County, Ohio in the Millheim cemetery. He came to a sudden and untimely death which was caused by a fall in his barn.
Christian born April 29, 1798 like his brothers and sisters was brought up by strangers. He formed the acquaintance of Christiana Ensminger, who was living with her married sister, Mrs. Catherine Miller. Christian Stauffer and Christiana Ensminger were married in the Lutheran and Reformed Church in Annville, PA., December 31, 1818. Christian is my 4th great grandfather.
